📝 We are not meant to play small. However, we 📝 We are not meant to play small. However, we don't just wake up one day ready to play big - we grow into it - challenge by challenge.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In a world where we have immediate access to pretty much everything - materialistic, informational, technological, etc. it can be really hard to cultivate the inner fortitude required for growth. Everything else comes so easily. We need that palpable, but undefinable strength to keep moving forward though. - That strength that not only overcomes challenges, but embraces them for the lessons that lie within.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here are a couple things I'm working on rn to get better at this:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🖊 Changing my perspective around challenge. How can I lean in? How can I shift my vantage point to my advantage? How can I hold to Ryan Holiday's adage: the obstacle is the way?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🖊 What beliefs do I have around this challenge? Am I coming at it from a place of not feeling like I am enough? Or am I coming at it from a place of strength, ex: This is difficult, but I have what it takes to overcome.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🖊 What can I do today to move the needle forward? Is it filling up my own tank so I can fill others? Is it finally finishing that webpage that I've been putting off? Is it scheduling that appointment with the financial advisor to make a plan to get out of debt? What can I do now to make progress so I can alleviate some anxiety?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We all want ease, and I understand that, but what if obstacles really are there FOR us? To teach, to expand, to raise our vibration to that next level of who we are capable of becoming?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because so much is available to us so easily and quickly, we tend to give up far too soon on the things that really matter in life. But we are worthy of more. We are worthy and capable of the challenges in our path.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

... Because travel helps us realize we are all so much more alike than we are different. When we look into each other’s eyes, our own humanity becomes glaringly apparent.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know most of cannot do any big traveling right now, however, we can make an adventure out of our lives, AND we can prime the soil for adventures to come.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A few ideas to invite a sense of wonder:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
+ buy a travel book about a place you’ve always wanted to go.
+ make a list of what you will bring with you. (My @parkerclayintl Merkato bag is the perfect catch all for a fun day trip - I’ve also traveled across the country with it and it comes in SUPER handy at the airport when you look down and go - where do I put my water bottle, breakfast sammy, and book?!?!) code: PC-JACLYN20 for 20% off. (Also, check out the company’s mission to uplift women out of exploitation in Ethiopia. Your dollars = dignified employment).
+ wear an outfit instead of sweats. I know. The horror of my suggestion... but putting on my normal clothes makes me feel more prepped to think big.
+ opening a savings account like Qapital that rounds up to the nearest dollar on all your purchases and helps you mindlessly save for adventures. I just looked and I have an extra $70 in my adventure account!
+ order take out from, or if you feel comfortable, go to a restaurant with the cuisine of the place you want to adventure to.
+ watch a movie or documentary about that place.
+ invite hope in. I do not believe we will always be restricted like we are now. But let’s not waste our beautiful lives in the wait. We can pour adventure in even when we can’t quite adventure out.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✈️ Where do you want to go when it’s safe to do so?!?!? Let’s make an adventure list!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

LOL. I have been chasing light in my RV all morni LOL. I have been chasing light in my RV all morning trying to film this clean eyeshadow look. No luck, so we’re rolling with it. It’s honest.

I’m really excited about this brand, @imaylabeauty, because, as you all know, I’m a big fan of clean makeup. I don’t want nasty, toxic chemicals on my skin. However, so many clean formulas do not perform well or the packaging is dull, etc. and you feel like you are trading that luxe, high end feel for something that just doesn’t quite fit the bill.

So far though, I’m loving what @imaylabeauty is putting out. I have the Individualist eye palette (full tutorial on this eye look in my IGTV section, too), the mascara (it’s bomb), and their eye brow mascara (wearing it rn).

Even more though, their mission is close to my heart - empowering individualism and beauty for ALL. That’s what’s up. This is a conscious company and I like them so much, I invited them on the podcast, too. When I go in, I go in hard!

Ladies, do you have any ?’s about this look, application, technique, etc. I’m happy to swap info. :)

I Feel Very “Out There”

By no means do I consider myself a magic person.

I do, however, remember being a child in love with creating, and specifically, creating music.  Very early on, maybe 6, I learned in school about Mozart and how he started creating his first piece of music when he was like 4.  So, naturally, I came home and started writing “notes” on a tissue thinking that I could easily become a savant, as well.

This is funny for 3 reasons:

  1. I didn’t know how to read or write music, so I was actually just doodling black dots with lines coming out of them in no particular order.
  2. I used the tissue because I saw in a movie that important things are written on tissues, so since my little symphony was going to go down in history, it must be written on tissue first.
  3. Even at 6 I started comparing myself to others and felt like I was already 2 years behind Mozart – which felt like a lifetime in my 6 year old mind.

Fast forward to today.  I have an EP coming out in a few short weeks and I’m feeling very vulnerable about it.  Some things have changed, but some things have definitely stayed the same.  I know how to read a little more music, but I’m still not a savant.  I don’t write on tissues anymore, but I do have like 300 notes in my iPhone from when inspiration has struck. And, this is the kicker, I still feel like I’m behind on everything all the time (I’m working on this).

We live in a world that seems to be built on comparison, especially in Western culture.  Every message we receive in advertising is meant to make us feel like we aren’t quite enough… not tall enough… not thin enough… not blonde enough… not cool enough… not smart enough… not popular enough… but if we just buy this one thing, then our whole lives will change.  And damn, y’all, this messaging is so effective.

Let me circle back to my music and why I feel so “out there” about it.

First, it’s vulnerable sharing things you’ve created.  These 3 songs are my brain children and it feels weird releasing them into the world to be heard (and judged).  I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make me want to smile and vomit at the same time.

Second, making something public I’ve worked on for literally YEARS brings up every insecurity I have ever had – which is probably a subconscious factor in why it’s taken so long to release it.  RELEASE IT.  This may sound silly, because I’m aware that I am a caucasian middle class female with many privileges, but I often feel like I’m not good enough.  And honestly, I don’t even know what “good enough” means, but I’m pretty sure I’m not crazy in the way I’ve been interpreting the messages I’ve received over the years.

I’ve been told I’m too big and need to lose weight (“A size 2 was standard in Hollywood and I was way off in my size 4 body”).

I’ve been told I’m too old and that was like 5 years ago (I was 27).

I’ve been told my music sucks.

I’ve been told it’s a good ‘ol boys club and it’s useless to even try breaking in as a woman at my age.

I’ve even been told that I sound stupid.

I’ve been told I didn’t have a chance.

I’ve been told all kinds of bull$shit that, for a long time, I believed.  But I cannot fault anyone else for internalizing the messages that were sent.  I chose to hold them.  I chose to let them seep in.  Me.  I chose that.

Dear ones, we have so much more control over the messages that are sent our way than we realize.  We can delete them just like we delete an unwanted email in our inbox, but we’ve been conditioned to let negative messaging define us.  But, dear one, they are not us.

We are stronger than that.  I am stronger than that.  Waaaaaaaaaay stronger than that.

I’ve kept creating music even when I didn’t know if it would ever be heard.

I said I wanted to record an EP when I had $0 budget, and thanks to some amazing people, we’ve done it.

I’ve kept walking forward in faith even when everything around me felt like it was falling apart – band members coming and going, empty promises, multiple recording projects that were started and never finished for one reason or another.

I could go on and on and on and on, but you know what I’m really fucking proud of?  The fact that I didn’t quit.  And yes, I feel naked and vulnerable and scared to release this stuff, but you know what I feel even more palpably… that I’ve been true to the deepest desires of my heart.  I’ve wanted to create ever since I can remember, and now, here I am at 32 still creating.

So no matter what happens with this EP as far as it’s reach goes, I know I’ve stayed true to my heart – to do what makes me feel alive.  And what more could I want than to feel alive?

I overcomplicated all those messages and forgot the most important ones – the ones my heart was sending me.  Maybe life isn’t so complicated – maybe we just make it so.

Cheers to the unknown and cheers to the dreamers, thinkers, + creators.

Light, Love, & Peace,

Jaclyn

So a bit of health update here.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For those of you who don't know, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis in August of last year. I was exhausted, anxious, sad, & had suddenly gained like 10 pounds - seemingly overnight. It was really scary.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After meeting with an endocrinologist, I started taking 25 mcg of Levothyroxine every morning (reluctantly because I'm intrinsically averse to pharmaceuticals - but I felt so horrible, I was desperate). I also decided to approach my health recovery through nutrition (limiting gluten, sugar, and healing the gut) and hormone replacement therapy (episode 44 of the podcast).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I had a blood test 2 weeks ago, and my TSH went from 4.9 to 2.7, and my thyroid antibodies went from 277 to 165. I am within a healthy range now except that my antibodies are still little high.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm not even 6 months from my diagnosis so this is good, however, if you know me, you will not be surprised by what I did next...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Decided to go off Levothyroxine... I've been off it for a week and I'm starting to feel fatigued again.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Which segues perfectly into today's podcast topic: how to stop giving our power away.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Among other things (and they're addressed in the episode), we have to know when to push & when to pull back.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm rushing my healing recovery by getting off the medicine too soon. I need more time. And, in this instance, renewing my prescription so that I can feel the energy I know I have inside, is taking the power back into my own hands.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Don't do what I did, which was: look at your numbers and feel frustration because they aren't perfect. Choose to see the progress. That's what I'm leaning into.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And if you need some outside help, it's ok. We don't have to be islands.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✌🏼 Name one area in your life in which you've made progress! Go!
